WK5-Project 2 Progress Scrapbook Report

WK 5- Project 2 Scrapbook Project- Due Sunday, 2/20 midnight

This week you will post your first progress report for Project 2 Scrapbook. For this report you will need to compile 10 images that meet the criteria listed inside your project handout. I will also list them here for your convenience. Locate the following images to use in your scrapbook, you can locate more images then what is assigned, but make sure you at least have what is listed below amongst all the images you compile for this project.

  1. Image that is over or underexposed.

  2. Image with no contrast or too much contrast.

  3. Image with dark shadows.

  4. Image with bright highlights

  5. Image where you want to change the color of something in the photo.

  6. Image with a color cast.

  7. Find a close up of a portrait in a magazine or book. (you will need to scan this in from a scanner)

  8. Shoot a close up portrait of your own face with a digital camera. You will use Photoshop to change something about yourself.

  9. Locate an antique photo that has been damaged or create a damaged photograph. You will use Photoshop to repair a damaged photo.

  10. Locate a photo you would like to apply a custom filter to or use a painting effect on.

Image Criteria (applies to all images)

  1. The first thing to determine about your images is if they are the right size. All images for this project must be at least 5 x 7 or 750 x 1050 pixels. When you change the resolution as discussed below, Photoshop will tell you what size your image is. You should have at least a 5" x 7" images to works with. An image that is larger then 5" x 7" is fine, but a smaller image is not usable for this project.

  2. The second thing to look for is resolution, most images taken with a digital camera are great for this project because they will more then likely have enough resolution to work with. You will need at least 150 dpi. Many images shot with digital cameras are 72dpi but are very large in size, which means if you open them into Photoshop and use the resolution fix I demonstrated in the WK2_Lecture Videos. This will make all your images 150dpi and they should work fine for this project. You can either watch the video or follow the instructions below to change the resolution of all the images.

  3. In Photoshop using the top menu bar, Pull down to Image > Image Size Options to change the resolution of each image to 150dpi.

  4. (CS6 users) Turn OFF the following check boxes before you change the image resolution, Uncheck - Scale Styles, Uncheck -Constrain Proportions, Uncheck - Resample image

    (CC users) Uncheck - Resample

  5. In the Resolution Field > Type in 150, look at the Width and Height of the image, it should read at least 5" x 7" to be used for this project.

  6. The third thing you should look for is if the image has good quality, is the image in focus and does it exhibit good clarity in terms of sharpness.

Once you have located your images you will need to create the report by bringing each image into either Word, InDesign or any other word processing program. Be sure to (1) proportionally resize them to 5 x 7 and (2) identify each image and what you classify them as. Use the list above as your base for categorizing the images. A couple of sentence explanation of how you plan to use the image inside your scrapbook project is sufficient for this report. ***Watch out...if you need to enlarge the image to make it fit 5 x 7, that will mean the image can not be used for this project, find another image.

If you have extra images you plan to use, include them into the report with a statement about how they fit in and how you plan to use them. You will need a total of (10) images for this report. You can have more, but don't have any less.

Submit your final report to this assignment area for grading. Be sure to name the report with your lastname_WK5report.
